In today’s list of must have products delivered straight to my inbox was a tutorial detailing how to build scraper websites solely for gaming the search engines. Oh, where has the integrity in online marketing gone? (Did it ever exist?)

The temptation is very real. Stories of marketers earning obscene amounts overnight by setting up some websites.

Yes, very tempting.

Until you find out that it involves setting up hundreds of websites that will spam comments and forums, annoy the end user, and be gone from the search engines before you can cash your first check.

Once the website is gone, so is the income from it - the AdSense revenue drops, the ebook sales dwindle, and the backlinks disappear.

For some, trying to game the search engines is a very feasible business model, but it’s not a lasting one and not very conducive to passive income - the ultimate goal of many online business owners.

I have to wonder whether the pay off is really worth the stress it causes. Just thinking about it tires me out.

The reason this business model is so popular, though, is because it promises quick riches, while building a strong business takes time.

(Apparently, in today’s world of instant this and instant that, time won’t cut it.)

How does that saying go? It only took me 20 years to become an overnight success? Passive income doesn’t just happen.

If you want to experience true success in business - lasting success - focus on building a solid business and avoid the fly-by-night schemes promising untold riches by investing just a few minutes of your time.
