Money isn’t a dirty word and having money doesn’t make you evil. The phrase money is the root of all evil is a bastardization of the original quote from the Bible:

For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Timothy 6:10

(Emphasis added.)

Not to worry, I’m not going to get all “preachy” on you or anything — I simply wanted to clear up a misconception about money and the saying that goes along with it.

How we think about money will affect how much money we actually have in our lives. When we keep thinking that having money is evil, we will have no money. Money isn’t evil. How you deal with money can be.

So, it would be a lot more accurate to say greed is the root of all evil. Remember that each time you hear someone call money evil. There’s a big difference between money and greed; money is an object, greed is a state of mind.
