There’s no backing out now. Plans have been made and the flight has been booked. PubCon 2006, here I come.

I’d read about PubCon and how much fun the conference was from previous attendees, but never built up enough courage to go myself.

Traveling alone doesn’t bother me, but being alone amongst a group of thousands of strangers in one place, that bothers me.

I’m pretty good at making it seem as though I’m comfortable when placed in such a situation, but rarely do I intentionally place myself in one.

So, when I read that Lynn was heading off to PubCon and was looking for a roomie, I decided to take the plunge and hope for the best. I feel a little guilty because my planning wasn’t as involved as Lynn’s.

I registered for PubCon, left Lynn a note, waited for her e-mail (which was actually a surprise phone call), then booked my ticket.

The worst case scenario would be I’d have to book my own hotel room, face my fear head on, and pray I didn’t end up becoming a reclusive fly on the wall when I arrived. Luckily I won’t have to worry about that because Lynn offered to let me be her and Chrissie’s third wheel at the Hotel Commonwealth :) .

PubCon seems like it is going to be loads of fun based on the information I gleaned from Lynn. It left me worried that I won’t be able to hang with some of those guys though - it sounds like there’s going to be a grown up version of a frat party after the seminars.

That’s the good news though. The bad news is that I won’t be able to attend all of the sessions. Lynn clarified that we would, in fact, need to choose which one of the four we’d like to attend in each time slot.

I guess that just means I’ll need to dust off my people skills and network so we can compare notes.

She also clued me in to a marathon that will probably hinder all transportation on the day we’re due to arrive and public transportation should be considered. That’s going to be a learning experience for me, I’m sure.

Aside from that, I’m looking forward to taking in all that Boston has to offer. This will be my first time visiting and I want to make the most of not only PubCon, but Boston itself.

It just hit me that I’ll be flying on a plane. Though I don’t have the typical fear of flying (I actually like flying), I do get the butterflies fluttering through my tummy feeling and an uncontrollable urge to pray at just the thought of a plane taking off.

But, I’ll save that worry for another day. Today, it’s all about doing some preparation for the trip and getting my websites prepared for my week long absence.

In the spirit of dusting off my people skills, I’m scheduled to arrive in Boston Monday April 17 and depart Friday April 21, so if you’ll be in the area and feel like setting up a mini-meet, let me know.
